Well Met
May 2025
Hello! And welcome to the second issue of Well Met, May 2025.

Our cover image this month is a cygnet I encountered in mid-April, on the banks of Upper Lake, Pittville Park, Cheltenham. This cygnet isn’t one of the offspring of resident breeding pair George and Maisie. He (I’ve been reliably informed!) has been chased off another territory by his own parents and is trying to find a new home. We hope he’ll fly to Worcester, as there’s a big breeding flock here and he might well meet plenty of potential partners. For now he’s safe on Upper Lake, but once this year’s Pittville cygnets have hatched George will wish to introduce them to the entire territory, moving from Lower Lake to Upper, and the fierce cob will not take kindly to anyone or anything perceived as a threat! It’s really rather an anxious time of year.

So, let’s relax and read some poetry. In this issue, there are contributions from...

Mike has provided notes to accompany his poems; Marty, John, and W.-B. have taken part in brief discussions.

We wish you a wonderful month!
