Well Met
January 2026

Welcome, everyone, to the January 2026 issue of Well Met. Our tiny team wishes you a Happy New Year!

This issue’s cover star is a ‘Tough wild boar,’ according to the photographer WildMedia. And you’d need to be tough in the midst of those distinctly wintry conditions! But because of the snow pattern around his mouth, the boar is also managing to appear rather cheerful, smiling goofily to see in the New Year. The image selection, for which I thank our admin man, was inspired by the ‘chortling boar‘ who pops up in one of this month’s poems. First to find him wins a prize!

Of course the boar is not the only treat in store for our readers. There‘s a titmouse too, a stocky mare and foal, a grim Granny, an intriguing series of portraits, various religious and other reflections, much in the way of journeying, a wrestling angel, and a black hole. As always, I hope there‘s something for everyone to enjoy!

In this first issue of 2026, we‘re honoured to feature returning poets Andrew, David, Gail, Janet, Janice, John, Mark, Martin, Melissa, Mike, Paul, Steven, Susan, and Word-Bird, alongside very welcome newcomers Shamik Banerjee and Satyananda Sarangi. My thanks to you all!

And thanks again for reading!
