Well Met
March 2026

Hooray! Spring is here, and the tiny team at Well Met is presently sitting in a little patch of sunlight. The sun is coming through our east window and the birds in our garden are singing lustily. Welcome to March!

The birds, of course, are unaware of all the war and suffering in the world. But the tiny team can take a moment of silence, before we carry on.

Our cover image this month is inspired by a poem in the issue; first to find it wins an award! In case anyone is wondering what happened to Janet Kenny’s Chortling Boar Award (from January), this took the form of inviting some of our poets to submit poems on the theme of Music for the current issue. So among this month’s pages you’ll find poetry inspired by personal experiences of music and a few ekphrastic numbers too!

Art ekphrasis also makes an appearance, amidst other personal experiences, and a beautiful tribute to the poet X. J. Kennedy from Melissa Balmain. Our condolences to everyone who knew him. We have best wishes to express to Susan McLean, who is currently recovering from a broken ankle, and congratulations to Claudia Gary and David Stephenson on their forthcoming collections. We’re looking forward to reading these!

Claudia is one of our two new contributors to Well Met this month; the other is Barbara Lydecker Crane, and we welcome you both with springtime sunshine! Many thanks for joining us, and thanks also to all the other contributors:

And many thanks to all our readers; we are truly grateful for your ongoing support and encouragement.

Happy March!
