Well Met
December 2025

Season‘s Greetings! And here we are in December already. For this month‘s Well Met, we‘re accompanied by a very handsome male mandarin duck, with thanks to Mircea Costina. The species often turns up in my local park around this time of year.

The duck appears rather festive; thats apt for this issue, as were not only acknowledging the onset of the festive season, but also celebrating the 30th anniversary of Snakeskin poetry journal! Hearty congratulations to Editor George Simmers on this astonishing feat. We hope the journal will continue for many years to come! This issue of Well Met includes several poems originally published in Snakeskin, as our way of thanking George for all his excellent work.

As usual, we thank our readers too, and this time I’ve prepared the pages with the sense of wrapping presents for you all. Theres a wide range of gifts, from the traditional to the contemporary. There are psychological pieces to unpack, lots for laughs including a dash of political parody, and even trips to such thrilling locations as the Red River Gorge, the Sierre Madre foothills, Queensland in springtime, and the ever-vibrant city of Rome. Other outings are also available, such as to the Edgar Hoover Library and to two local parks, for birding. So theres something for everyone to enjoy!

This month we‘re honoured to feature returning poets Andrew, David, Gail, Janet, Janice, John, Mark, Martin, Melissa, Mike, Steven, Susan, and Word-Bird, alongside newcomer Paul Burgess. The mandarin duck embraces you! Thanks to you all.
